Vertical Communications Announces InstantOffice 7.0
By Sandra Gustavsen, TelecomTactics Recent mergers and acquisitions have made Vertical Communications a significant competitor in the IP-PBX market. In September 2005, Vertical announced the acquisition of Comdial Corporation, a well-established and leading manufacturer of digital and IP PBX phone systems since 1982. In September 2004, Artisoft, Inc. acquired IP PBX provider Vertical Networks, Inc. based in Sunnyvale, CA, changing its company name to Vertical Communications, Inc. and company website to www.vertical.com. The new name reflects the company’s goal to provide various vertical markets with next-generation communications systems.
Vertical’s InstantOffice 7.0 is a flexible server-based system designed for small- to mid-size offices and branch locations. The system enables both packet and circuit switching and uses the same routing and switching capabilities for both voice and data traffic; no additional equipment is needed for routing voice over a data network, a cost savings over traditional telephone systems. Currently, five InstantOffice models are available, including the InstantOffice 1500 (42 stations), InstantOffice 3000 and 3500 (72 stations) and InstantOffice 6000 and 6500 (192 stations). Built-in InstantOffice Voice Mail software requires no additional hardware and is compatible with standard e-mail applications (IMAP4) and AMIS networking. The base package includes 48 voicemail boxes with an option to add more mailboxes. The “x500” models feature a faster processor, as well as additional memory for advanced applications, including Vertical’s Call Management Suite for contact centers, IVR, Fax Manager, Voice Server (VXML based self service), VPN, Service Response, Call Assistant Windows-based PC and Office Attendant PC. Vertical offers a comprehensive terminal portfolio that includes standard analog telephones, proprietary digital telephones and IP telephones, SIP phones, standard H.323 clients and wireless IP phones. Recently-introduced SIP phones include the 9112i with 3-line LCD display, speakerphone with mute and one 10/100 switched Ethernet port; the 9133i with large 3-line backlit LCD display, full duplex speakerphone with mute and two 10/100 switched Ethernet ports; and the 480i (pictured) with 2.5-inch x 3.5-inch backlit LCD display, full duplex speakerphone with mute, standard in-line power and two 10/100 switched Ethernet ports.
Notable is Vertical’s MultiSite Reporter, a powerful business intelligence and reporting solution for the enterprise that enables multiple stores and branch offices to communicate and handle customer interactions. MultiSite Reporter enables the tracking and analysis of customer contacts from multiple sales channels, including call centers, catalogs and Web sites. Retailers will benefit from caller behavior analysis, exception reporting across stores, facility statistics, marketing campaign assessment, and automatic report generation and distribution, as well as information on employee productivity.
