Weather Channel Launches Mobile-Enabled Site at weather.mobi

The Weather Channel has jumped on the domobi bandwagon. The company announced today a trial launch of Weather Channel Mobile, at weather.mobi.

 

mobile Top Level Domain (mTLD), the company behind the new .mobi (dotmobi) Internet domain, issued the temporary URL to The Weather Channel to help demonstrate dotmobi capabilities.

 

“The Weather Channel has always focused on delivering the most relevant and reliable weather information to consumers across platforms,” said Louis Gump, vice president of The Weather Channel’s Mobile division, in a press release.

 

The dotmobi suffix in website addresses is being touted as an instantly recognizable signpost that such sites have been tailor-made for access on mobile handsets.

 

mTLD is claims that the dotmobi domain standard—scheduled for commercial launch this summer—will improve mobile Web access.

 

mTLD was designated the official worldwide registry for the dotmobi domain by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) last year.
