AT&T Scores Networking Contract from Tenneco

AT&T recently scored a $10 million, three-year networking contract from emission control product manufacturer, Tenneco.

The new agreement calls for AT&T (News - Alert) to deploy an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) in order to integrate 113 Tenneco locations across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia-Pacific with a suite of voice, data and business continuity services.

With manufacturing, engineering and technical centers around the world, Tenneco needed a high speed networking platform to enhance its corporate connectivity and increase its bandwidth to support real-time engineering and business process collaboration globally.

"One of Tenneco's key strategies is to expand in emerging markets such as China and Eastern Europe. AT&T has the global reach and technology we need to support our growth plans anywhere in the world," said Tenneco's chief information officer Bill Haser in a statement. "They also offer high-quality, secure and consistent corporate communications services for our employees."

With the AT&T network in place, Tenneco will benefit from higher levels of security and speed for the company's e-mail, proprietary applications, databases and billing functions. The system also supports Tenneco's business continuity plan by providing automatic backup and rerouting to another facility in the event of a network disruption or disaster.

The new network, which runs on AT&T's Multiprotocol Labeling Switching (MPLS) platform, is available for services such as VoIP-based calling. Tenneco will also be able to monitor the performance of its network and applications through the secure AT&T customer portal, AT&T BusinessDirect, which provides around-the-clock online access to real-time reports on network performance and direct connection to trouble management systems.

Today's news follows AT&T's recently announced networking deal with Arkansas-based First Western Bank. AT&T was to deploy a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Private Network Transport (PNT) to 12 First Western Bank locations. The system will provide access to business-critical data over AT&T's MPLS enabled IP backbone.

The system will also provide expanded bandwidth to support simultaneous transport of video and voice data across First Western Bank's wide area network (WAN). The new services will enable the bank to launch videoconferencing applications across multiple remote sites, as well as VoIP capabilities.
