Consumer Electronics High on Dad's Wish List

TMCnet Assistant Editor

The days of receiving a new tie on Fathers Day seems to have lost its place on Dad's wish list. According to a study released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), Consumer Electronic devices are increasingly becoming the desire of Dad's everywhere.

The CEA study, "Gadgets for Dad: A Fathers Day Study" found that fathers this year are hoping to receive electronic devices as gifts over various traditional gifts of the past.  Scoring high on their wish lists were digital cameras and MP3 players.

Though grill equipment still has its appeal, scoring 30 percent of the votes, and clothing with 40 percent, CE devices beat out both categories with 42 percent. Demonstrating this desire, the study found that 74 percent of Dads would rather have HDTV than a gas grill and 70 percent would rather have a digital camera than golf clubs.

Adding to the appeal of CE products are current price reductions which make them more affordable and possible to purchase.

Just how many Dads will be so lucky this year? According to the study, 24 percent of adults are planning on buying a CE device this Father's Day while 38 percent of teens say they will purchase gadgets for their father.

This complete study is available free to CEA member companies and non-members can purchase the study for $499 HERE
