IBM has reportedly opened a Shared Services Center in Portugal to provide finance and accounting services to promote its global delivery model of business transformation outsourcing (BTO). According to a press release, the center in Braga will help meet the growing demand for multilingual business and technology services. The center will provide services to Unilever for increasing process performance and reducing costs for the multinational company.

This is IBM’s (News - Alert) second center in Portugal. The company has another Shared Services Center in Lisbon that handles finance and administration processes for BP’s refining and marketing businesses across Portugal, Spain, France and the United Kingdom.

The new Braga center will work with IBM’s service delivery centers in Krakow, Poland and Bangalore, India. The Braga and Krakow centers will manage client and vendor relations for Unilever. IBM’s Bangalore center in India will, however, handle transactional services.

José Joaquim de Oliveira, country general manager, IBM Portugal, said the ability of IBM Portugal to deliver high-value multilingual business process and transformation outsourcing services to clients located throughout Europe has been the key for its continued expansion in the country.

IBM also says that the Braga center has plans to enhance IBM’s global network of more than three dozen BTO delivery centers. The center will basically concentrate on transforming and managing financial processes for clients across Europe.
