Gaithersburg, MD-based VoIP application software provider BroadSoft announced on Friday that it has opened a European operations center in Belfast, Ireland with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

The company currently operates sales offices in London, Bonn and Paris, and has representatives in Stockholm and Madrid. The new BroadSoft (News - Alert) European Operations Center is located at the Northern Ireland Science Park in Belfast, and will expand the company's capabilities to provide technical support, service and training to its European customers.

BroadSoft runs other global technical centers in North America and Australia, providing support to the company and global customers on a "follow-the-sun" basis.

"BroadSoft's BroadWorks platform is currently used by dozens of service providers in Europe, and this new European support facility will help our customers go to market more quickly with their fixed, mobile and converged VoIP offerings," said BroadSoft's president and CEO Michael Tessler in a statement. "The Belfast centre allows us to provide access to highly skilled technical staff and an advanced telecommunications infrastructure in a location that facilitates rapid response to our customers' needs.

"Northern Ireland clearly offered us the most attractive option for our European expansion," he added.

Today's news follows BroadSoft's announcement about it scoring a contract from Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) in Vietnam for the company to deploy its BroadSoft BroadWorks hosted VoIP applications platform. The partnership asks that Broadsoft deploy the system in QTSC's multi-tenant office in Vietnam with Datacraft, a systems integrator and a subsidiary of Dimension Data.

BroadSoft's BroadWorks platform is being implemented as part of Datacraft's metropolitan area network (MAN) infrastructure solution for QTSC.
