VoX to Offer Puerto Rico Virtual Phone Numbers in the U.S.

VoIP retailer VoX Communications announced on Monday that it is now offering Puerto Rico virtual telephone numbers to subscribers in the United States.

The company says is the first VoIP provider to offer customers in the 50 U.S. states the ability to add a Puerto Rico telephone number to any of its telephony service plans for an extra $4.95 per month. The move will allow VoX subscribers' contacts living in Puerto Rico to call them on a local number rather than a long distance number.

Virtual telephone numbers ring to a VoX customer's primary phone line, not being tied to their geographical location. Customers will be able to select up to nine virtual numbers.

"Virtual numbers enable friends, family members and colleagues to contact VoX customers without incurring expensive long distance charges," said VoX Communications' EVP of Sales and Marketing Ron Harden in a statement. "Today, many consumers have phone plans that include long distance for a flat rate. With VoX Unlimited, customers can call anywhere in the US, Canada or Puerto Rico for $24.95. For just a few more dollars a month they can give someone living far away the ability to call them whenever they want. This is great for college students and is especially appealing to VoX customers who have loved ones without access to affordable calling plans."

VoX telephone service and virtual numbers are currently available throughout the U.S. and Canada.

VoX had announced that customers would be able to order its broadband telephone service in Puerto Rico back in May. The VoIP service provider currently offers the same service plans currently available throughout the rest of the U.S. to residents of Puerto Rico. Basic service includes 200 minutes of calling for $9.95. The VoX Unlimited plan enables customers to talk unlimitedly throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as Puerto Rico, for $29.95. All plans include advanced features such as voicemail, three-way calling, caller ID blocking, basic 911 and enhanced 911 where available. VoX also offers lower-priced international calling. The service will be sold online and is expected to be made available through major U.S. retailers with stores throughout Puerto Rico.
