Voice processing technology provider Global IP Sound (GIPS) introduced on Tuesday the VoiceEngine Mobile Lite platform for the developers. The software platform is comprised of integration code for the simple and quick creation of mobile VoIP applications.

The new platform is based on the company’s VoiceEngine Mobile Lite, which includes some components of the core GIPS technology currently utilized by various VoIP service and technology providers including Skype (News - Alert), Tencent, and Inter-tel. The application allows developers to implement GIPS codecs as well as NetEQ, a jitter buffer and packet loss concealment module, without having to license the system. GIPS VoiceEngine Mobile Lite currently supports Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and 5.0 Smartphone devices with real-time performance WiFi.

“As VoIP technology emerges as an important solution in the wireless space, the availability of VoiceEngine Mobile Lite provides a strong set of tools to create almost any non-commercial application,” said GIPS’ president and CEO Gary P. Hermansen in a statement. “We believe this unique environment will help facilitate innovation and creativity in the mobile VoIP marketplace while allowing developers to experience GIPS technology.”

GIPS announced it joined forces with various companies in order to offer additional mobile VoIP development tools. This will enable members of the GIPS’ Developer Community to access Googles’ Libjingle application for mobile phones. VoiceEngine Mobile Lite is also interoperable Google (News - Alert) Talk's peer-to-peer and voice calling capabilities.

GIPS made news back in September when it announced that it announced the release of version 2.0 of its iSAC codec, an adaptive codec for developers of VoIP communications. iSAC's new version is now optimized for use in hardware devices. This system allows IP phone, gateway and chipset manufacturers to deliver products that offer higher quality voice products for PC-based Internet calling service users.

GIPS iSAC adaptive VoIP codec 2.0 is part of the GIPS SoundwareT voice processing software suite for the delivery of wideband quality in both low and high-bit rate applications. The move will enable several IP-chipset manufacturers including Texas Instruments (News - Alert) to incorporate GIPS's iSAC 2.0 codec into their VoIP systems.

GIPS made iSAC available only available in floating point code for use in softphones and other applications running on PCs and less resource dependent platforms. The new version is also interoperable with IP phones, gateways, and chipsets with the iSAC-enabled softphones and Internet-based voice services that are currently deployed through GIPS' major ISP customers such as Yahoo!, AOL (News - Alert) and Skype.
