Tekelec May Open Venezuela Office

Switching equipment manufacturer Tekelec (News - Alert) is reportedly considering opening an office in Venezuela. This is what company's director in Brazil Paulo Henrique Souza told BNamericas on Tuesday. Tekelec would open its new South American office during this year's first quarter.

The move would follow the company's announcement about its newly opened offices in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina last month.

Tekelec will reportedly use the new Venezuelan offices to handle its Latin-based telecom accounts which include Mexico's America Movil and Telefonica from Spain.

Tekelec had a rough end-of-year financial overview for 2006. The company faced a shares slump after it received a stock downgrade by Susquehanna Financial analyst Joe Chiasson last month. According to an AP report, the analyst cited "growing concerns about the 2007 revenue picture, notably NSG revenue, in light of 2006 order patterns and declining backlog."

The analyst downgraded the company's stock from "Neutral" to "Negative."
