Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless announced that it expanded its Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) third generation (3G) wide-area network coverage in selected areas in the state of Tennessee. The move will provide more Tennessee residents with access to high-speed business and entertainment-based services on their wireless devices.

Starting today, more Verizon Wireless customers in Athens, Morristown, Sweetwater, Talbott, White Pine, Witt, West Memphis, Marion, Hernando and Walls, Tennessee can experience the high-speed wireless service.

“Verizon Wireless can now offer more residents access to high-speed data connection on their laptops and PDAs and access Verizon Wireless’ exclusive V CAST Music services on their handsets,” said Jerry Fountain, Carolinas/Tennessee region president for Verizon Wireless in a statement.

Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO network, which reportedly reaches more than 200 million Americans, can be currently accessed in all five Tennessee metropolitan areas (Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis and Tri-Cities) as well as Tazewell, Union City and Dyersburg.

The expansion announced today follows the wireless operator’s recent network growth in the Northeastern states, including areas in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts.

In New Jersey, the telecom expanded its network with two new cell sites. The new Middlesex County cell sites will cover portions in East Brunswick including Route 18, Summerhill Road, and Ryder and Rues lanes including the Brunswick Square Mall. The telecom also extended coverage in the New Market section of Piscataway, along South Washington and Lakeview avenues, and William Street.

According to Verizon Wireless, the company has invested $2 billion to enhance its New York Metro area network so far. The company has reportedly invested more than $35 billion nationwide in the last seven years to add newer services such as text and picture messaging, VZ Navigator and V CAST Music.
