AT&T Behind Technology Infrastructure at DuPage Park

AT&T (News - Alert) is providing the fiber-based technology infrastructure which will be used to deliver communications services to future tenants of the DuPage National Technology Park in West Chicago.

The Telecom giant made an agreement with CenterPoint Properties—DuPage’s developer, to deploy the AT&T Business Smart Moves program at the 800-acre business park. The park is owned by the DuPage Airport Authority.

The park will be equipped with high-capacity broadband, security services, as well as a dual-entry fiber design for uninterrupted service in the event of a fiber line cut or other equipment failure.

Once the park is ready to be occupied, the future tenants will have access to AT&T's local and long distance phone and data services, including videoconferencing, Internet access, local area network (LAN) connectivity and high speed data transfer. All services can be ordered from a single phone number provided by AT&T Business Smart Moves program.

“We have seen an increased demand for the delivery of advanced technology services to the commercial real estate market, as property managers look for innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of their tenants,” said Mike Welch, vice president for AT&T Business Smart Moves. “The technology we're providing to the DuPage National Technology Park will be a key competitive differentiator for any business that takes advantage of what the business park has to offer.”

According to AT&T, this agreement is part of a commercial real estate business growing trend—equipping of property with technology needed in order to make more advanced communications services available to occupants.

“In today’s world, it’s not just about location. It’s about connectivity, speed and bandwidth," said CenterPoint's senior vice president of development Fred Reynolds, in a statement. “AT&T is laying the groundwork, infrastructure, and connectivity for applications that will accommodate the demanding bandwidth and communications needs of businesses in the DuPage National Technology Park now and in the future.”

A similar agreement was reached between Courtyard Developments—developer of HydePark community, and Vonage (News - Alert) Canada in the Northern American country. Thanks to the partnership, Vonage Canada is now Hyde Park's exclusive telephone services provider.

According to the builder, it had set out to build a special retirement community for seniors in the outskirts of Ottawa—Canada's first “high-tech retirement community.” Internet telephony will be part of the community's high-tech features. With Vonage Canada, the more than 300 retirees living in Hyde Park's "smart" high-tech homes would only have to plug their existing telephones into a wallet-sized phone adapter in order to make and receive phone calls.
