International Business Machines Corporation (IBM (News - Alert)), one of the largest computer technology providers in the world, has announced the completion of its acquisition of Vallent Corporation, a provider of service management software and network performance monitoring to wireless service providers.

IBM’s expertise and Vallent’s service portfolio will enable service providers to manage and deliver high-quality service across converged mobile network, wireless, IP and wire line infrastructure. Vallent Corporation’s product is a great addition to IBM’s Tivoli Software Netcool portfolio to manage operators’ network performance and service quality.

Vallent has over 400 employees and more than 200 clients that include mobile makers like Motorola (News - Alert) and Alcatel-Lucent. Its software is designed to enhance the performance of operators’ network infrastructure and thus improve quality of service.

Telecommunications companies are delighted with the acquisition. Sasho Mitov, operations and maintenance division director of Mobiltel said in a press release, “Since we are a customer of both Vallent and IBM, the acquisition aligns well with our OSS strategy. We look forward to expanding our business relationship and supporting our rapid roll-out of high quality services.”

IBM and Vallent’s extensive customer service and proven technology will effectively help service providers in managing existing network environments and can assure continued growth in terms of wireless connectivity and mobile convergence.

IBM also recently acquired Micromuse (News - Alert), which offers its Netcool product, used for managing IP-based services and infrastructure. Vallent’s capability of managing wireless radio access networks works well with Netcool products. IBM is confident that these new acquisitions will help it break new ground, particularly in terms of making its clients more confident in its service portfolio.

IBM’s ability in addressing emerging opportunities in network transformation and IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) deployment is further enhanced by Vallent. This new acquisition is expected to boost IBM’s revenue, with Vallent bringing international clients to the company. Vallent’s current customers, on the other hand, can now take advantage of IBM’s capabilities and technologies.
