Verint Systems (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of analytic software solutions for digital video surveillance and communication interception, has introduced STAR-GATE Lite, a lawful interception solution that will help small VoIP and broadband providers comply with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) regulations as mandated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC (News - Alert)).

The CALEA was created in 1994 to address the competing interest of privacy rights, law enforcement, and technological innovation. It requires telephone companies to allow basic government access to preserve law enforcement wiretapping capabilities. Verint Systems Inc. aims to help small VoIP and broadband providers meet the requirements by offering an advanced, but cost-effective solution.

According to a news release, "this introduction follows the FCC’s clarification last year that CALEA regulations would apply to all facilities-based broadband and VoIP service providers, regardless of size."

Dan Bodner, President and CEO of Verint Systems Inc. said in a statement to the press, "Since the FCC's clarification of CALEA, we have seen interest from both large and smaller broadband and VoIP service providers that are seeking to comply with this regulation for the first time. Our new STAR-GATE Lite solution is a based on the advanced technology of our Tier 1 service provider STAR-GATE solution, but designed to cost-effectively meet the requirements of smaller service providers."

Verint’s STAR-GATE solution was developed to address the needs of small service providers and through the use of circuit-switched and packet data lawful interception solutions, collects and converts intercepted data from their networks to the CALEA format which can be used by law enforcement or government agencies.
