Ericsson (News - Alert) has delivered its EDA VDSL2 solution to Finnish regional telephone company PHP (Päijät-Hämeen Puhelin), enabling it to offer its broadband customers triple-play services combining IPTV (News - Alert) with voice and data starting this month.

Ericsson’s EDA VDSL2 (Very-high-bit-rate DSL) is based on Ethernet architecture. This
new-generation broadband solution provides access speeds of up to 100Mbps over existing copper networks.

PHP is an expanding data communications and information technology group in southern Finland. The company aims to offer full-scale broadband services for even the most demanding of customers.

“PHP is a long-time Ericsson customer, and we are happy to help it continue its work in building up advanced broadband solutions,” said Janne Laitala, managing director, Ericsson Finland in a press release. He added, “The VDSL2 solution will facilitate services including IPTV, which is gaining popularity globally. IPTV brings dozens of television channels and versatile video-on-demand services to broadband subscribers.”

Ericsson made news earlier this month for signing a turnkey contract with the city of Trikala as a total solution provider and prime integrator to implement its pioneering plans for the creation of the first Greek Digital City.
