Cool Earth Solar, a utility-scale solar company that provides clean energy at prices competitive with traditional fossil fuels, has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the AlwaysOn Global 250 winners. Being present in the AlwaysOn Global 250 list signifies leadership amongst its peers and game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to disrupt existing markets and entrenched players in the Global Silicon Valley.

Cool Earth Solar was specially selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team and industry experts spanning the globe based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz.
"This award is a testament to our innovation in the solar energy space and offers further validation of our continuing efforts to drive down the costs of clean energy," said Rob Lamkin, CEO of Cool Earth Solar. "We are honored to be recognized by AlwaysOn and congratulate the other winners."

The AlwaysOn Global 250 winners were selected from among thousands of domestic and international technology companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists, and industry insiders. The AlwaysOn editorial team conducted a rigorous three-month selection process to finalize the 2010 list. One of the other booming companies chosen as one of the AlwaysOn Global 250 winners is RichRelevance, the leading provider of dynamic e-commerce personalization for the world's largest retailers like Sears and Overstock.com.
"After examining the companies that are on the AO Global 250 list, it's obvious that innovation is not only alive and well in the Global Silicon Valley, it's accelerating in economic power and scope," says Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. "The companies certainly represent some of the highest-growth opportunities in the private company marketplace."
Cool Earth Solar was selected as a winner in the Greentech category for its ultra-lightweight concentrated photovoltaic technology. Unlike most solar systems requiring large amounts of expensive materials, Cool Earth's solar concentrators are primarily made of plastic and air. Each concentrator focuses sunlight onto a small PV receiver and magnifies each ray of light 400 times.
While this process produces the same amount of electricity as traditional flat-panel PV systems, it uses up to 300-400 times less solar cell material. Cool Earth Solar's technology dramatically reduces the cost and time needed to develop large-scale power plants that can generate clean energy at prices competitive with fossil fuels.
