Nihon Kohden America, a market leader in patient monitoring innovation, recently announced that it has signed an agreement to provide pivotal telemetry and enterprise monitoring technology to Columbus Regional Hospital, a 225-bed facility.

According to officials from Nihon Kohden America, the solution will help the hospital improve overall quality of care and provide hospitals with more flexible monitoring on higher-acuity patients. The technology has already been deployed in emergency department on March 22 and will soon be deployed at other departments as well.

"We recognize that Nihon Kohden is helping hospitals save lives and avoid costs while facing unprecedented challenges to the healthcare system," said Carolyn O'Neal, CRH director of nursing. "We selected Nihon Kohden because we believe we will garner better detection of both ischemic events and arrhythmias by monitoring 8 leads of ECG, as well as gain the ability to make any bed a fully monitored cardiac bed with the NTX transmitter."
The architecture of Nihon Kohden America's enterprise monitoring network is not server based, and thus drives additional hardware and software costs out of the overall system price. With fewer hardware components, the system is less prone to failure and requires less maintenance. Data can be transferred between bedsides, wireless devices and central stations almost instantaneously with a few simple keystrokes.
The NTX solution contains multi-lead ECG monitoring with heart rate, respiration rate, apnea, oxygen saturation and noninvasive blood pressure. The solution bridges the gap between a bedside monitor and a traditional transmitter. The review screens include multi-lead ECG view, Vital signs list, and full disclosure waveform review.
"We thank Columbus Regional Hospital for embracing our monitoring innovation," said Mike Dashefsky, vice president, Nihon Kohden America. "We believe our solutions align firmly with the hospital's mission found at the CRH Innovation Center. Columbus Regional Hospital is taking systematic steps to evolve the way they deliver healthcare, testing innovation as a central strategy. Innovation helps them deliver the best care in the most efficient and effective way, and we're proud that Nihon Kohden now will help them further distinguish themselves from the competition."
