Competition is nothing new to the technology arena - it's what breeds innovation and defines new trends. When new ideas reach the point of becoming disruptive, competition heats up to the point of a tech war, which is where cloud computing has taken the industry. Vendors large and small are making a play in the cloud, and it's profoundly changing how businesses think about, purchase and manage technology.

What does that change mean? How will providers and users alike handle concerns over privacy and security? Where does open source fit into the picture? Does cloud mean the end of local computing completely? TMC's Editorial Director Erik Linask will lead a panel of cloud computing leaders to answer these questions and find out what technologies will dominate the cloud landscape.

The Future of Service Providers - Dumb Pipes or Global Leaders Panelists Include:
  • Alcatel-Lucent: Jason Collins, Vice President of Emerging Technology and Innovation
  • Firespotter Labs: Craig Walker, CEO and Founder
  • Ingate: Steve Johnson (News - Alert), President
  • Sansay: Dave Walters, Vice President of Business Development
  • Sonus: David Tipping, Vice President and General Manager, SBC Business Unit

In a data-driven world, what will be the role of the network operators? Will they be 'dumb pipe' companies, or will they leverage their unique assets-communications infrastructure, connectivity, market coverage and customer intimacy-to emerge as the hubs of dynamic global ecosystems? New capabilities and services are being developed and delivered to customers in multiple form factors on multiple screens, and developments like virtualization, WebRTC and CDNs further threaten the value of the network operator as a traditional service provider.
The coming months will require a strategy decision on the part of network owners: Will they cede the high value-added ground to others or succeed in asserting the imperative of their centrality to creating the future? TMC Senior Editor and 35-year veteran of the telecom industry Peter Bernstein will lead this critical discussion with a panel of high-profile vendors with a critical stake to claim in the new service delivery paradigm.
'Our keynote panels are addressing two major concerns for the industry right now: what's next for the cloud and how can service providers adapt and stay relevant to an abundance of new services and capabilities,' said Rich Tehrani, TMC CEO and ITEXPO conference chairman. 'Not only will attendees gain insight into the latest developments and expectations for the IP Communications industry, but they'll hear it from the industry's leading experts. These panels will present best practices and valuable information so that attendees can make better business decisions in 2013 and beyond.'
