In a move to help business customers better manage their information technology (IT) systems, Verizon Business this week introduced a new Remote Internet Protocol (IP) Application Management Service option. The service is said to provide customers with better control of their costs and increase their systems' performance and reliability.

The new option, now available for U.S. business and government customers, will enable them to rely on Verizon Business to remotely monitor and manage basic IT infrastructure and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris. The service seems to be a great option for companies that want to outsource their whole IT department management responsibilities.

Verizon Business' new management option is also a good choice for those customers that usually store their business-critical servers in a variety of settings, including at their own location, a third-party data center or in one of Verizon's more than 100 U.S. data centers.

"As more companies transition to IP, they are looking for higher-value services that help them better manage their IP infrastructure," said Ed McGuinness, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Verizon Business. "With our Remote IP Application Management Service Basic option, we continue to help companies overcome the challenges associated with managing IP-based IT systems with a broad continuum of service options."

This service provides customers with Verizon Business' Remote IP Application Management Portal, named Total View, which enables companies to manage, measure, plan and troubleshoot critical server processes in real-time. It integrates a suite of performance variables including a portal that provides access to analytical data.

With Remote IP Application Management Service Basic, businesses can outsource the management of their essential operating systems using a system of checks to ensure the early detection of problems and critical conditions that may affect system availability. Through this service, Verizon Business monitors and tracks issues that may hamper the performance of the customer's critical IT infrastructure at the operating system level. When a problem is detected, Verizon Business works with the customer to manage hardware and operation system issues, including identification, verification, diagnosis, resolution, tracking, escalation and documenting problems with the customer's system.

Getting a service like this seems like a great option for small to medium-sized companies that want to benefit from other services that Verizon Business offers along with Remote IP Application Management Service Basic including Data Center Colocation, Data Center Outsourcing, Remote Backup and Restore, Hosted Messaging, IT Service Desk and IP Application Hosting.

The adoption of hosted IP services is really catching on amongst enterprises in the U.S. Indeed, according to a study conducted by research firm IDC, ever since the popularity of residential VoIP-based calling services such as ones provided by companies like Vonage, it has reflected upon hosted IP voice services to represent a significant opportunity for carriers. The firm forecasts that the market for hosted IP services among U.S. businesses is expected to have an annual growth rate (CAGR) of 282 percent to reach $7.6 billion in 2008.
