Brix Expands VoIP Offering for Cable Providers

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Brix Networks (News - Alert) announced that it has expanded the BrixCall VoIP analysis and correlation application software by adding Network-based Call Signaling for cable operators. The move would provide cable operators with QoS visibility into subscribers’ homes.

The software now supports the protocol commonly used in cable environments by correlating passive monitoring entries and active test results to allow for troubleshooting and fault isolation. BrixCall for Cable passively monitors live VoIP traffic, and also actively tests results to “guarantee” call quality from the core of a service provider’s net to customer care.

“Our customers include some of the largest cable companies in North America and they have asked for greater service assurance capabilities, particularly across the last mile and into the home,” commented Brix’s vice president/solutions Steve DesRochers. “With BrixCall, network operators gain important insight into live calls by being able to proactively measure the performance of the network and call signaling paths, and passively monitor the performance of live media and signaling.”

BrixCall can be deployed in conjunction with the Brix family of Verifiers. It is an integrated component within the company’s BrixWorx central-site software engine. The system supports the H.323, H.248, and SIP-T protocols. BrixCall is scheduled for availability this summer.

Today’s news follows Brix’s recent announcement about it being issued a U.S. patent by the Trademark Office for the company’s hardware time-stamping method.

U. S. Patent No. 7,058,020 was issued in regards to a technology which time-stamps a data packet for determining the measurement of network characteristics—including one-way and round-trip latency and jitter—to within one microsecond. This could reduce the vagueness typically linked with software processing and system load.
