Special Report: Carrier Grade VoIP Market Grows in Q2 2005BY JOHANNE TORRES TMCnet VoIP Minute Watch Columnist A study conducted by research firm DITTBERNER titled "Worldwide Q2 2005 NGN Shipments Analysis" revealed that over 16 million media gateway, softswitch and integrated VoIP ports were shipped during this year's second quarter. The findings unveil a 16.5 percent increase over the year's first quarter, due to ongoing carrier upgrade activity especially in CALA and EMEA. The increase is further supported by reduced pricing stimulated by marketplace competition, the firm said. DITTBERNER found that Nortel Networks currently leads the market, having shipped 3.288 million VoIP ports. The firm also found that Siemens edged out Huawei Technologies into second place this quarter, gaining 18.17 percent of global market share compared to Huawei's 16.19 percent score. Research showed that CALA, EMEA and NA regions have experienced strong growth with numbers reaching the 43.94, 31.17 and 25.6 percent marks respectively over this year's first quarter. These numbers were obtained while APAC saw a decrease of 9.8 percent over this year's first quarter. The firm expects to see further VoIP equipment shipment growth during the next quarters as the migration to packet telephony picks up pace around the globe.
