VoIP technology provider Patton Electronics announced on Monday the completion of interoperability tests between BroadSoft's BroadWorks and its SmartNode suite of VoIP IADs and Routers. Patton used the tekVizion independent labs to run the tests required to obtain BroadSoft's Interoperability status for its SmartNode products.

"Patton's Strategy is to ensure interoperability of our VoIP products with industry leading application solutions," said Marco Liechti, product line manager VoIP at Patton Electronics. "We now ensure our Carrier customers using BroadWorks an even tighter integration with the application layer."

The great thing about making your products interoperable with a system like BoadSoft's is that providers can actually benefit from a much smoother transition when switching from traditional telephony services to an all-IP environment. Using the SIP protocol, SmartNodes connects existing infrastructure in residential and enterprise premises to the advanced features and services of BroadWorks.

The SmartNode suite of converged systems offers VoIP gateways and IADs scaling from 2 to 120 analog or digital voice ports for carriers and enterprises. The SmartNode product line covers a range of industry-standard interfaces, including T1, E1, PRI, BRI, FXS, FXO, Ethernet, V.35 and X.21. SmartNode also supports SIP, H.323, T.38 Fax Relay, fax-bypass and modem-bypass.

Patton recently added security features to the SmartNode suite of products. The company added new software for voice encryption with Voice-over-VPN and automatic IPSec keying with Internet Key Exchange (IKE). These features seem to be ideal for enterprises which handle highly confidential info such as banks and other financial institutions to ensure the privacy of voice and data networks. All SmartNode models include standard upstream Quality of Service (QoS) combined with Patton's advanced DownStreamQoS.

"BroadSoft has developed one of the best Next Generation Carrier Class Telephony platforms," said Robert R. Patton, president of Patton. "We are delighted to be partners and neighbors with a great company like BroadSoft."
