Report Examines HD Voice Carriers, Quality, Services and Progress
Norwalk, CT - April 29, 2013 - TMC and HD Voice News have announced the publication of 'HD Voice 2013: Explosion,' an annual comprehensive report on the worldwide growing use of wideband voice.
HD voice deployments have accelerated significantly over the last 12 months. With large VoLTE rollouts, there are currently 71 operational mobile HD voice deployments around the world encompassing the full range of cellular technologies, including 2G, 3G CDMA, UTMS/HSPA and LTE.

T-Mobile (News - Alert) USA became the first mobile provider in the U.S. to successfully deliver commercial service earlier this year, building upon that success by adding the Apple iPhone 5 to its lineup. AT&T (News - Alert) says it will be the first to bring Voice over LTE (VoLTE) in the second half of 2013. The real action is happening in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

'HD Voice 2013: Explosion' is based upon four years of accumulated research and dialogue with services providers, network equipment vendors, and OEM suppliers,' said HD Voice News Editor-in-Chief Doug Mohney. The report documents a wide ecosystem of products and services delivering HD voice in the real world today. It discusses the trends for the proliferation of HD voice in markets around the world and obstacles that remain for ubiquitous wideband availability.'

Report Findings Include:
  • The launch of the Apple iPhone (News - Alert) 5 had a significant impact on HD voice awareness. Several carriers tied in HD voice service launches to the introduction of the iPhone 5.
  • Residential HD voice service continues to progress in Europe, with new launches in France and Turkey.
  • Looking at HD voice to 'save' voice minutes is a fallacy in a data-driven world.
  • Improved voice quality is necessary for businesses and consumers, with the proliferation of machine-based services ranging from voice-to-text email to personal assistants such as Google (News - Alert) Now and Apple's Siri. Recording and 'mining' voice conversations will be a major profit center.
  • Carriers need to start thinking about 'Drinking their own champagne/eating their dog food'; applying HD voice service to improve their operations. Call centers will see major improvements with HD voice.
This report should be read by anyone with a stake in delivering voice services:
  • Broadband, mobile, cable service providers
  • Network equipment vendors
  • Business and residential CPE vendors
  • Cellular handset manufacturers
  • Venture capital and private equity firms

Available exclusively through TMC's website, 'HD Voice 2013: Explosion' can be purchased online for $199. Sales inquiries, such as purchase order handling and distribution rights for this report, should be directed to Frank Coppola at [email protected] or call 1-203-852-6800 x131.
