State of Nevada Taps AT&T for Voice and Data Services

The State of Nevada awarded AT&T with a new voice and data services contract. The new contract will make the telecom giant the premier transport communications provider to the State's Department of Information Technology, spanning 16 of the 17 counties throughout the Silver state.

The new, two-year contract calls for AT&T (News - Alert) to provide the State of Nevada with an Integrated Services Digital Network Primary Rate Interface (ISDN PRI), Centrex and voice and data hardware. This contract will allow Nevada's State Department of Information Technology to coordinate and manage the deployment of services to all Executive Branch agencies through a single integrated network.

The enhanced services will support high-volume access and high speed data transfer across the public-switched network, bundling voice, data, image and video over the same digital facilities. These services will also restructure internal office communications and help to efficiently manage incoming and outgoing calls reducing overall cost.

"We were in search of a voice and data solution that would allow us to operate more efficiently, provide the needed technologies of the future, and enable entities to share applications." said Dave Richards, information systems manager, Telecommunications, Nevada State Department of Information Technology in a statement. "We're confident the solutions provided by AT&T will enable the state to meet its needs and ultimately deliver the best service to the residents of Nevada."

AT&T made news earlier this week when it announced that Enbridge, an energy, transportation and distribution company in North America, awarded the telecom a three-year $9 million networking contract for the integration of an IP VPN. The new agreement renews the long-standing relationship between the two companies.

AT&T's global networking platform will incorporate AT&T's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, connecting more than 225 Enbridge sites across the United States and Canada. AT&T's MPLS network is comprised of more than 1,500 nodes with service availability in more than 127 countries.

AT&T's IP VPN system will enable Enbridge employees to easily and securely access data and applications residing on a particular server, providing Enbridge's staff access to real-time info about the natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids and other liquid hydrocarbons flowing through their pipelines.
