AT&T Inks Network Contract with California School District

AT&T announced on Friday that it has inked a new optical services contract with Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD), a California school district with 34 schools located in Orange County.

The new contract calls for AT&T (News - Alert) to deploy its OPT-E-MAN switched Ethernet service to all PYLUSD locations, allowing communications between the schools and the district office through pure Ethernet connectivity. The service will enable the schools to provide access to information resources and communication for all parents, students, and staff through a single integrated portal available anywhere, anytime.

"We were in search of a provider that could deliver a cost-effective network capable of supporting advanced applications for a large school district," said Bob Blackney, director of Technology of Placentia-Yorba Linda USD in a statement. "The solution provided by AT&T will help us continue our commitment to giving our students a first-rate education now and in the future."


The district will now have faster Internet connection speeds with increased reliability and will also be able to integrate future communications services, such as VoIP, via the converged network infrastructure.

Today's news follows AT&T's announcement about it scoring a $10 million, three-year networking contract from emission control product manufacturer, Tenneco.

The new agreement called for AT&T to deploy an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) in order to integrate 113 Tenneco locations across North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia-Pacific with a suite of voice, data and business continuity services.

With manufacturing, engineering and technical centers around the world, Tenneco needed a high speed networking platform to enhance its corporate connectivity and increase its bandwidth to support real-time engineering and business process collaboration globally.
