VoIP equipment supplier Zhone Technologies announced today that its EtherActive Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) products now enable delivery of high bandwidth Ethernet services over fiber.

Zhone’s new EtherActive Optical Line Terminal (OLT) is able to support up to 10 subscribers per blade with 10/100/1000Mbps service over either copper or single/dual mode fiber. Zhone’s OLT system allows carriers to mix and match copper and fiber services on the same card. Zhone's EtherXtend product suite includes the new EtherActive products which allow carriers to deliver Gigabit Ethernet Services directly to homes and businesses.

By operating on Zhone’s MALC platforms, the EtherXtend product suite allows carriers to quickly deliver standards-based Ethernet services over existing copper or fiber utilizing EFM technology. MALC delivers required services deployed by carriers today including POTS, DSL and legacy special services.

Zhone also announced today the Indoor/Outdoor Residential Gateway including 2/4 Ethernet Ports, 2 FXS Ports to support VoIP services and HPNAv3 over copper or coax to support IPTV (News - Alert) services. Zhone provides DTMF Touch Tone and Pulse Dialing and Loop Start support for both FXS and FXO.

“With the rapid proliferation of bandwidth-hungry Ethernet applications, service providers are looking for elegant ways of delivering high bandwidth Ethernet services that their subscribers demand,” said Zhone’s vice president of marketing David Markowitz in a statement. “Zhone’s EtherXtend products allow service providers the flexibility to deliver Ethernet everywhere over both copper and fiber.”

Zhone made news recently when it teamed with Tekelec (News - Alert) to announce that TSC of Ohio, a provider of local, long distance, Internet and data services, had selected the companies’ joint voice, data and video offering.

TSC was to deploy Zhone’s MALC Next-Generation Packet Loop Carrier, the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch and the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server in order to deliver voice and data services throughout it servers. With Zhone’s SLMS architecture and Tekelec's softswitch technology in place, TSC will be able to deliver voice, data and video services in rural areas. These services used to only be available in select major metro markets.
