Voice delivery guru Zhone Technologies Inc. and telecom product developer Tekelec announced Tuesday that TSC of Ohio, a provider of local, long distance, Internet and data services selected the companies' joint voice, data and video offering.

Under the terms of the agreement, TSC will be able to deploy Zhone's Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC) Next-Generation Packet Loop Carrier, the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch and the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server in order to deliver voice and data services throughout it serves. With Zhone's SLMS architecture and Tekelec's softswitch technology in place, TSC will be able to deliver voice, data and video services in rural areas. These services used to only be available in select major metro markets.

"We are dedicated to bringing our customers state-of-the-art technology and services with a hometown flare for individual customer care," noted Jason Neumeier, chief technology officer at TSC. "TSC realizes the success of our company is measured by our customers' satisfaction. We will provide our customers with a winning team and reliable state-of-the-art technology backed by courteous and knowledgeable people to care for their needs and concerns. Our goal is to establish a lasting relationship where the customer is completely satisfied with TSC's services, products and employees."

Today's news follows Tekelec's recent partnership with PrairieWave Communications of South Dakota in order to deploy the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet switches (T7000) and the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server (T6000).

The deal enabled PrairieWave to begin planning the delivery of VoIP services and applications over its broadband network to more than 60,000 subscribers in 45 communities in the states of South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.

Zhone made news last month when its eLuminant products were acquired by Communications Test Design Inc. (CTDI). Specifically, CTDI acquired Zhone's eLuminant ISC-303 digital loop carrier, the VISTA Access Sonet ADM, the RC-28D and the FD-6 multiplexer. CTDI will be the primary subcontractor which will provide test and repair service for the products.

Through the acquisition, Zhone reportedly received an approximately $9.0 million in exchange for the inventory, equipment, intellectual property and liabilities associated with the products.
