Switching equipment manufacturer Tekelec (News - Alert) has been chosen to provide Israel-based Pelephone Communications with its EAGLE 5 platform for integrated number portability (NP). Pelephone is a code division multiple access (CDMA) third-generation (3G) wireless network technology operator.

For this project, Tekelec joined forces with Bynet Data Communications, a systems integrator. Bynet will implement the service and provide local project management and other services in voice signaling and data IP infrastructure to Pelephone.

Tekelec’s service can handle up to 96 million subscriber entries, which can support Pelephone’s network expansion.

“Tekelec has a strong history of NP innovation, and its unique architecture, combined with the proven performance and reliability of the EAGLE platform, will enable us not only to meet the demands we face today, but also those we will face well into the future,” said Doron Kurtz, vice president of engineering and technology for Pelephone in a statement.

Tekelec made news earlier this week when it was reported that the company may be considering opening an office in Venezuela. This is what company’s director in Brazil Paulo Henrique Souza told BNamericas on Tuesday. Tekelec would open its new South American office during this year’s first quarter.

Tekelec will reportedly use the new Venezuelan offices to handle its Latin-based telecom accounts which include Mexico’s America Movil and Telefonica from Spain. The move would follow the company’s announcement about its newly opened offices in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina last month.
