AT&T Hired by Staffing Agency to Upgrade VPN

AT&T (News - Alert) has reached a new three-year, $1.7 million agreement with staffing agency CORESTAFF Services to implement and manage an upgrade of its network.

The deal extends and expands an existing relationship between both companies. It calls for the telecom giant to implement its managed Virtual Private Network (VPN) services using Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology to connect 73 of CORESTAFF's sites across North America. The network upgrade is meant to replace the staffing agency's six-year-old Frame Relay network with a speedier and more reliable system.

"Due to the ever-changing requirements of the staffing industry, the amount of data flowing through our network has quadrupled over the past six years, and it was becoming increasingly challenging to manage the peaks," said Dan DiGregorio, chief information officer of CORESTAFF, in a statement. "AT&T's managed VPN is so fast that our users enjoy consistent response time and the network monitoring system gives us the ability to examine real-time and historical network performance."

With AT&T's VPN services in place, CORESTAFF will be able to receive any-to-any connectivity for all locations, as well as "Class of Service and Multicasting," which, according to AT&T, is required to deliver their applications more effectively.

AT&T also announced today that it inked an agreement with Kuehne + Nagel, a logistics services company, to deploy a wireless local area network (WLAN) to support its large warehouses in Mexico. AT&T will also provide Kuehne + Nagel with equipment, installation and project management at each site.

The companies' new contract will expand Kuehne + Nagel's relationship with AT&T outside the United States. AT&T had deployed a similar network to support 25 of Kuehne + Nagel's warehouses across the United States during the last two years.
